Roberto Powers is the Consul General at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.
He most recently served as a Diplomat-in-Residence at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, and as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan.

Since joining the Foreign Service in 1986, Mr. Powers served tours of duty in the following posts: Seoul, Korea; Milan, Italy; Washington, DC; Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo; Damascus, Syria and Casablanca, Morocco.

Mr. Powers has received numerous awards from the Department of State, including two superior honor awards. He is the 2001 recipient of the Barbara M. Watson Award for Consular Excellence.

Before joining the Department of State, Mr. Powers worked as a lawyer from 1979-1986 with the Court of Arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, France. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School (J.D. 1978), Wesleyan University (B.A. 1975) and Deerfield Academy (1971). He studied also as an exchange student for one year at the Arabic Language Institute at the American University in Cairo, a year at Boalt Hall School of Law and a year at Smith College.

Mr. Powers speaks and reads fluently French, Italian, and Arabic. He also reads and understands Spanish and Portuguese. He enjoys reading (particularly novels and foreign writers), singing, dancing, tennis and all forms of music and theatre.

تولى السيد روبرتو باورز مهام منصبه كقنصل عام السفارة الأمركية في القاهرة في أغسطس 2009. فبل ذلك مباشرة عمل كدبلوماسي مقيم في جامعة ايه-اند-ام في تالاهاسي بولاية فلوريدا، ونائب رئيس البعثة في السفارة الأمركية في الخرطوم ، السودان. منذ انضمامه للخدمة الخارجية في عام 1986 ، تولي السيد باورز مهام متناوبة في البعثات الأميركية في: مدينة سيول ، كوريا ؛ ومدينة ميلانو ، إيطاليا ؛ وواشنطن العاصمة ؛ ومدينة كينشاسا ، جمهورية الكونغو الديموقراطية ؛ ومدينة دمشق ، سوريا ؛ ومدينة الدار البيضاء ، المغرب. كما تلقي العديد من الجوائز من وزارة الخارجية الأميركية ، من بينها جائزتان شرفيتان. وهو حائز علي جائزة باربرا واتسون للتميز القنصلي.

لقد ضاعفنا شفافية وكفاءة عملية استخراج التأشيرة فى قسم الخدمات القنصلية. فلزيادة طاقة العمل ، أدخلنا نظام إلكتروني لتقديم الطلبات لتشجيع كفاءة إدخال المعلومات وكذلك ضاعفنا عدد المقابلات المسموحة لكل موظف قنصلي يوميا. وأصبح يمكن لطالب التأشيرة الإضطلاع على موقف تأشيرته على الإنترنت فى أي وقت. ونحن نعطي أولوية لمقابلات المتقدمين من الطلبة ورجال الأعمال الذين يريدون السفر بصفة عاجلة، وذلك لتشجيع ومساندة الأعمال الدولية والتعليم الدولي.
