The Joint Science and Technology Funds

General Information

The Joint Fund was established under the U.S. - Egypt Science & Technology Cooperative Agreement first signed in 1995, and then renewed in 2001 and 2005 by the United States and the Arab Republic of Egypt. Approximately USD $ 4 million per year is equally distributed between Egyptian and American scientists working together on joint Fund activities.

The main goals of the Joint Fund are to:

  • Strengthen the scientific and technological capabilities of both countries.

  • Broaden and expand relations between the scientific and technical communities.

  • Promote scientific and technological cooperation in areas of mutual benefit for peaceful purposes.


Joint Fund support for research and development cooperation takes the form of:
1. Dual-Cooperator Research Grants
Grant Type A: up to a maximum of $ 100.000USD;
Grant Type B: from $101,000 to a maximum of $200,000USD.
2. Workshop Grants (workshop proposals are presented to the joint Board by Board members only; to discuss a workshop idea, please contact the Board member (contacts page) within the appropriate field).
3. Junior Scientist Development Visit Grants
Important Notice: For U.S PIs submitting their applications to NSF for review, please note that NSF has revised the Proposal Award Policies and Procedures and a new solicitation number has been assigned (NSF 09-29) to replace (09-1.)
