Remarks by Special Envoy George Mitchell
Following his meeting with President Mubarak
Cairo, Egypt
September 17, 2009
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am pleased to be back in Egypt again. I had an excellent meeting with President Mubarak, with the Foreign Minister, with General Soliman, and I also met with the Foreign Minister and General Soliman separately. We reiterated the shared commitment of the United States and Egypt for a comprehensive peace in the Middle East, including an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on a two-state solution. The United States is asking all of the parties, Israelis, Palestinians and the Arab states, to take responsibility for peace through concrete actions which will help create a positive context for the re-launch of negotiations. Later today, I will visit Jordan to meet with King Abdullah, and tomorrow I will continue my discussions with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and with President Abbas. Thank you very much for being here today.
