Remarks by Special Envoy Gratian following his meeting with Arab League Sec. General Amre Moussa
April 30, 2009
Good morning. It is wonderful to be in Cairo, this is a wonderful country and I enjoy every time that I have to come back to this wonderful land. A land that has a relationship with the rest of Africa, specifically the Sudan. I had the opportunity today to discuss with the Secretary General his views , the Arab League views, on what needs to be done. I got to learn about their efforts on the humanitarian side to make sure that the Arab League is supporting the humanitarian situation in Darfur and in Sudan, in general. So it was a very productive talk and insightful talk as I learned the perspectives of what Egypt, and most specifically what the Arab League, is doing. So thank you very much. I will be moving on from here to go to Chad. We are seeking to get a ceasefire and end of hostilities, even if on a temporary or on an interim basis, to ensure that we give the critical room to continue discussions and continue resolutions to the issues that are very real in Sudan. So thank you very much. I appreciate the opportunity and it’s wonderful to be here in Egypt.
