Cairo – U.S. Ambassador to Cairo Francis J. Ricciardone today visited teachers and student participants in the Very Special Arts (VSA) program at Townhouse Art Gallery in Cairo. In collaboration with VSA arts of Egypt and Townhouse, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo organized and funded a summer arts camp for some 60 underprivileged Egyptian children, including children with special needs.
The three week summer camp, which will operate July 7-25, is designed to develop social, cognitive, and cultural skills through arts learning, while creating inclusion in the arts for children with special needs. Two experienced American artists with disabilities, Ms. Jaehn Clare of Georgia and Ms. Nilea Rohrer-Parvin of Texas, will instruct the camp.
Ms. Jaehn Clare is a theater artist with over 30 years experience as an actor, director, producer, playwright, teaching artist, and arts administrator. She is paraplegic and has been an active disability awareness trainer for more than 20 years. She holds a BA in Theatre Arts and an MA in Dramatic Literature.
Ms. Nilea Rohrer-Parvin is an American sculptor who teaches through many disciplines, including performance art and creative writing. She experienced a mild traumatic brain injury. She has designed and taught art programs for 30 years in museums, public and alternative schools, juvenile detention centers, and adult learning centers.
The Townhouse Gallery was founded in 1998 to support artistic work and increase accessibility to contemporary arts in Egypt. Townhouse workshops often provide a place for the public to paint, sculpt, and create art.
The VSA arts Teaching Artist Fellowship was launched in 2006 to engage and support teaching artists with special needs in the visual and performing arts. الفنانون الأمريكيون يساهمون في معسكر صيفي مصري "الفنون الخاصة جداً"
قام السفير الأمريكي بالقاهرة فرانسيس ريتشاردوني اليوم بزيارة المعلمين والطلاب المشاركين في برنامج "الفنون الخاصة جداًً" بقاعة "تاون هاوس" للفنون. وكانت السفارة الأمريكية قد نظمت هذا البرنامج ومولته بالتعاون مع قاعة "تاون هاوس" وبرنامج "الفنون الخاصة جداً – مصر" لنحو 60 طفلاً مصرياً من ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة.
ويهدف هذا المعسكر الصيفي الذي يمتد على مدار ثلاثة أسابيع خلال الفترة من 7 إلى 25 يوليو إلى تطوير المهارات الاجتماعية والمعرفية والثقافية من خلال تعلم الفنون مع الاهتمام بمشاركة الأطفال من ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة. وقد انضمت الفنانتان الأمريكيتان جيهان كلير – من جورجيا – و نيليا روهربافين – من تكساس – للتدريس في المعسكر جانباً على جنب مع الفنانين المصريين بقاعة "تاون هاوس".
تعد السيدة جيهان كلير مدرسة فنون ذات 30 عاماً من الخبرة في مجالات التمثيل والإخراج والإنتاج والتأليف المسرحي وتدريس الفنون. وهي تعاني من إصابة بالشلل ومدربة وعي إعاقة نشطة عملت على نشر الوعي والمشاركة في ورش عمل متعلقة بالإعاقة على مدار أكثر من 20 عاماً. وهي حاصلة على درجة البكالوريوس في الفنون المسرحية وماجستير في الأدب الدرامي.
أما السيدة نيليا روهربافين فهي مثّالة أمريكية تتولى تدريس عدة أنواع من الفنون بما في ذلك الفن التعبيري والكتابة الإبداعية وقد سبق لها التعرض لإصابة دماغية بسيطة. وقد تولت تصميم عدة برامج فنية وتدريسها على مدار 30 عاماً في متاحف ومدارس عامة وبديلة ومراكز لرعاية الأحداث ومراكز تعليم الكبار.
وقد تأسست قاعة "تاون هاوس" للفنون في عام 1998 لدعم الأعمال الفنية وتوسيع انتشار الفنون المعاصرة في مصر. وتوفر ورش عمل "تاون هاوس" مساحات للجمهور للممارسة هواياتهم الفنية من رسم ونحت ومختلف أنواع الفنون.
وقد تم إطلاق "منح تدريس الفنون" الخاصة ببرنامج VSA arts في 2006 لدعم تدريس الفنانين ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة الفنون المرئية والأدائية. والفنان المُعلِم هو فنان محترف يتولى لإدارة العملية
