Cairo -- The United States Embassy in Cairo is pleased to invite you to a multimedia presentation and discussion on “Climate Change and Water Resources” with American and Egyptian ecological experts, Dr. Mark Stone and Dr. Samer El Mofty. The event will be held at El-Sawy Culture Wheel in Cairo on July 19, 2009 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is free.

Dr. Mark Stone is an Assistant Research Professor in the Division of Hydrologic Sciences at the Desert Research Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering, specializing in water resources, from Washington State University. Dr. Stone is a leading expert in the ecological engineering of water systems and the impact of climate change on water resources in the Midwest and western United States. He is currently collaborating with Cairo University in a project to investigate the construction of wetlands to improve water quality in drainage ditches to the Nile.

Dr. Samer El Mofty will discuss the Egyptian perspective on the effects of climate change on water resource management and the latest developments in the Nile Basin area. Dr. El Mofty is the former Secretary General of the Desert Research Center and a member of the National Water Policy group in the Policy Committee of the National Democratic Party. He has lectured extensively on environmental issues, including a series of monthly environmental lectures at the El-Sawy Culture Wheel. Dr. El Mofty received his Ph.D in chemistry from Mansoura University.
