القاهرة - تتشرف السفارة الأمريكية بالقاهرة بالتعاون مع مكتبة الأسكندرية والجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة والجمعية المصرية للمصادر التعليمية بتقديم حوار عبر الفيديو كونفرانس عن القراءة الكبرى مع عضو الكونجرس الأمريكي كيث إليسون، وذلك يوم الثلاثاء الموافق 28 أبريل 2009 الساعة 3 عصرا.

مبادرة القراءة الكبرى بين مصر والولايات المتحدة هي مبادرة "صندوق المنح الوطنية للفنون" ووزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، في شراكة مع معهد خدمات المتاحف والمكتبات وهيئة الفنون للغرب الأوسط الأمريكى، وهي تهدف إلى تعميق التفاهم والحوار بين المصريين والأمريكيين من خلال الآداب ومالها من قوة على التغيير. وهذه المبادرة باعتبارها جزءا من المبادرة الثقافية العالمية لوزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، تجمع المكتبات وجماعات المجتمع والمدارس وغير ذلك من الشركاء في الولايات المتحدة ومصر، معا لتشجيع المواطنين على القراءة بغرض الاستمتاع والاستنارة وتقاسم الكنوز الأدبية لبعضهم البعض.

سوف يتحدث عضو الكونجرس الأمريكي كيث إليسون عن مبادرة القراءة الكبرى وأهميتها للتبادل الثقافي بين مصر والولايات المتحدة. تولي السيد إليسون منصبه كنائب عن المنطقة الخامسة بولاية مينسوتا في مجلس النواب في 4 يناير 2007.

وتاريخياً يعد السيد إليسون أول نائب منتخب من أصل أفريقي عن ولاية مينسوتا، و كذلك يعد أول نائب مسلم يخدم بالكونجرس.

Cairo – The U.S. Embassy in Egypt, in coordination with Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the American University in Cairo and E-era, is pleased to present a digital video conference for the Big Read with U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 3:00 PM.

The Big Read Egypt/U.S. is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the U.S. Department of State, in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest, designed to deepen cultural understanding and dialogue between Egyptians and Americans through the transformative power of literature. As part of the Department of State's Global Cultural Initiative, the Big Read Egypt/U.S. brings libraries, community groups, schools and other partners in the U.S. and Egypt together to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment and to share each other's literary treasures.

Congressman Keith Ellison will speak about the Big Read and its importance to the cultural exchange and engagement between Egypt and the United States. Mr. Ellison has represented the Fifth Congressional District of Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives since taking office on January 4, 2007.

Ellison made history as the first African American from Minnesota to serve in the U.S. Congress. He also made history by becoming the first person of the Muslim faith to serve in the U.S. Congress.
