خطاب سفيرة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية بمناسبة عيد الإستقلال

القاهرة 2 يوليو 2008

أود ان أرحب بجميع الأصدقاء المصريين وأعضاء السلك الدبلوماسي والداعمين الكرماء والضيوف الأعزاء والزملاء المصريين والأمريكيين فى احتفالنا الرسمي بعيد إستقلال الولايات المتحدة.

لقد حضرت الى مصر منذ فترة وجيزة، الا اننى قوبلت بالترحاب الحار من الشعب المصري الذي اتشرف بإستضافته فى سفارتنا اليوم للإحتفال بالذكرى 232 لإستقلال الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية.

انه من المناسب ان نجتمع سويا اليوم فى موقع قريب جدا من أعظم أنهار العالم وهو نهر النيل للإحتفال معا بهذا اليوم. فقد نشأتٌ أيضا على ضفاف نهر عظيم آخر وهو نهر المسيسيبي فى مدينة تدعى ممفيس، اسم عاصمة مصر القديمة، والذي اتخذه اندرو جاكسون، سابع رئيس للولايات المتحدة، اسما لتلك المدينة. لقد أحسن الأمريكيون منذ نشأة دولتهم التقدير والإحترام تجاه مصر. فشكل الهرم يزين الخاتم الأعلى للولايات المتحدة والذي يظهر على ورقة العملة الأمريكية. كما تقف المسلة المصرية بشموخ فى العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن، فى ذكرى اول رئيس أمريكي وهو جورج واشنطن. لقد مثلت تلك الرموز المصرية لدي أبائنا الأوائل معاني الإستقرار والحياة المديدة التي أرادوا لوطنهم الجديد والواعد أن يعيشها.

ولذلك فأنا أشارك أبائنا الأوائل الأمريكيين الإعجاب والتواصل مع الشعب المصري العظيم وتاريخه الثرى.

واليوم تجمع مصر والولايات المتحدة علاقات شراكة استراتيجية وحيوية تعتمد على أهداف مشتركة وهي السلام والأمن والرخاء ليس فقط لأبناء كلا البلدين بل ايضا لشعوب المنطقة كافة.

فبينما قمنا ببناء تلك الشراكة الحيوية استطعنا ايضا خلق صداقة مستدامة بين البلدين تعتمد على التفاهم المتبادل والإحترام والأمل فى مستقبل يعمه السلام والحرية والتعاون.

اشكركم لمشاركتنا لإحتفالنا اليوم وأود ان أشكر كل الداعمين لهذا الحفل.

كل عام والولايات المتحدة بخير.

I welcome all of our Egyptian friends, members of the Diplomatic Corps, generous sponsors, honored guests, and American and Egyptian Colleagues to the official American Independence Day Celebration in Cairo.

I arrived in Egypt a short time ago, but the Egyptian people have extended such a warm welcome to me that it is an honor to host you at our Embassy to celebrate the 232nd anniversary of our Declaration of Independence.

It is entirely fitting for us to gather just one block from one of the worlds great rivers, the Nile, to mark this day. I grew up on the banks of another great river, the Mississippi, in a city called Memphis, named after the ancient Egyptian capital by Andrew Jackson, America's seventh president. Americans have admired and respected Egypt since the founding of our country. A pyramid graces the Great Seal of the United States, which appears on every dollar bill, and an obelisk stands proudly in Washington, DC in memory of our first President, George Washington. These Egyptian symbols represented to our forefathers the stability and long life they wanted for their new and hopeful nation.

So I share with America's founding fathers admiration and affinity for the rich history and special people of Egypt.

Today, America and Egypt share a vital strategic partnership based on mutually shared goals of peace, security, and prosperity, not only for our own citizens but also for the people of the entire region. As we have developed this partnership, we have also created an enduring friendship between our two countries, based on mutual understanding, respect and hope for a future of peace, freedom and cooperation.
