السيد المحافظ، ، السادة والسيدات اعضاء مجتمع الأعمال والسلك الدبلوماسى والثقافى اشكركم جميعا لحضوركم معنا اليوم.

انه لمن دواعى سرورى ان اكون بينكم هنا فى الإسكندرية ثانية، وخاصة فى قصر المنتزه، لنحتفل، مبكرا،معا بعيد الإستقلال الأمريكى. ان قصر السلاملك كان مكانا بديعا لإفطارنا فى رمضان الماضى، ولذلك اخترنا ان يكون احتفالنا اليوم فى جزيرة الشاى والتى هى جميلة جدا ايضا.

فى الرابع من يوليو ستحتفل الولايات المتحدة ليس فقط بماضيها ولكن ستحتفل كذلك بالمستقبل الماثل امامنا. اود ان اؤكد على رسالة الرئيس اوباما بأننا فى مرحلة البداية لبناء العالم الذىنطمح اليه جميعا، عالم يتيح التعليم للجميع، عالم يعمه السلام والرخاء، عالم نستطيع ان نحقق فيه، استنادا الى ما اوصى به الرئيس اوباما " أن المصالح المشتركة بيننا كبشر هي أقوى بكثير من القوى الفاصلة بيننا".

ان الأمريكيين، كما تعلمون، "مشكلون من جميع الثقافات وجاءوا من جميع اطراف الأرض". يدخل 7 مليون مسلم امريكى ضمن هذا العدد. جميعنا، خاصة اولئك الذين يعنون ببناء العلاقات مع الدول الأخرى، يؤمنون بما قاله الرئيس اوباما من اننا لابد ان نستمع الى بعضنا البعض ونتعلم من بعضنا البعض.

ان الإسكندرية رائدة فى كثير من المجلات التى ترغب الولايات المتحدة ان تدعم اوجه التعاون فيها. فجميع الجامعات المصرية ترتبط ببرامج تبادل مع الجامعات الأمريكية وفرص التوسع فى هذه البرامج كبيرة. ان الإسكندرية،كذلك، مضيفة لعدد كبير من الطلاب الأمريكيين الذين قدموا ليتعلموا اللغة العربية فى جامعاتها - واعلمكم ان اكثر من مائة طالب وطالبة سيحضرون هذا الصيف – والعدد فى تزايد مستمر. بالإضافة الى ذلك فإن مجتمع الأعمال يعتبر مرشح قوى للمبادرات التى تعمل على تنمية العلاقات بين القادة فى مجتمع الأعمال كما ان قطاع الصحة يعتبر رائدا فى مجال رفع الوعى لأهمية صحة المرأة والطفل.

اتمنى اليوم ان نحتفل بصدقاتنا التاريخية والتعاون المستقبلى. اشكركم مجددا لحضوركم اليوم للأحتفال معنا.

Governor Labeeb, members of the Alexandria business, cultural and consular communities, thank you for joining us today.

I am delighted to be here in Alexandria, and especially at Montazah Palace, again to celebrate our American National Day with you a bit early. The Salamlek Hotel was a lovely place for our iftar last year, and this tea island is wonderful, as well.

On July 4th, the United States will celebrate not just our history, but the future that lies before us. I would like to reinforce President Obama’s message that we are at the beginning of a process to build the world we all seek – one where education is available for all, where peace and prosperity go hand in hand, and where we recognize, to quote the President, that the “interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than what drives us apart.”

Americans, as you know, are “shaped by every culture, and drawn from the ends of the earth.” Included in that number are nearly 7 million Muslim Americans. All of us, and especially those of us whose mission is to build relationships with other countries, believe deeply in the President’s charge that we should listen to each other and learn from each other.

Alexandria is already a leader in many of the areas where the United States wants to strengthen cooperation. All of your universities already participate in exchanges with the United States and are well placed to expand those opportunities. Alexandria is also already host to a large number of American students who come here to learn Arabic – I understand that there will be more than a hundred here this summer alone – and the number is set to expand. In addition, Alexandria’s business community is a strong candidate for the initiatives that will strengthen ties between business leaders and its health sector is a leader in promoting child and maternity health.

So today, let us celebrate our past friendship and our future cooperation. Thank you again for coming to celebrate with us.
